The meeting was called to order at 7:15 by Don Clayton.
Present: Don Clayton, Rodney Cox, Jan Henderson, Rob Henderson, Gen
Stoyak, Patrick Monagin, Kirn Greymalkin, Maria Valayil.
There was a
quorum.
Absent: Matthew Blair
After a check in, the agenda was reviewed. A suggestion was made to modify the form of the agenda for clarity. The new agenda form should have the added agenda items moved from position 2 to the end of the agenda.
The 2001 Calendar Planning Meeting will be on Saturday at Annette's. Annette has Kirn's drill schedule. There may be a conflict with some High Days. Kirn would like rituals to be scheduled so that she can attend now that she is our YAC. She asks that those doing the scheduling be mindful to that. Imbolc is especially important. Rob said that they would keep that in mind as they do the scheduling.
Samhain Harvest went well for the Grove but attendance over all was less than last year. There were approximately 150 people attending this year compared to 800 last year. The site was hard to find. It was also a new location. Brooke and her band chose to leave rather than to perform. The facilities were inadequate. There was a dog show going on at the same time in another part of the site. This added to the general confusion. Our Producers Group made $89 after deducting the cost of renting the table. We sold masks, candles and a wreath. Many of the other merchants were disappointed with the lack of people. We distributed flyers about our Samhain ritual and got several new people as a result. Both Samhain rituals went well.
Rod is glad Don is getting the mail now! Rod liked the lectures at Samhain Harvest. After the evening Samhain ritual, Rod went to Triskele River. He thinks he made a good impression.
Don has taken over as Administrator. On November 19 there will be an interfaith Thanksgiving celebration in Ann Arbor.
October minutes were accepted with one correction: Magicians moving to Guild Day.
No report
The Lughnasagh report was reissued to include additional funds received. Financial statements were distributed. Gwydion owes us approximately $4,000. ADF is collecting money from him and are supposed to distribute a percentage of what they have collected to us. Patrick will contact ADF.
We should consider investing the Land Fund in a green fund.
Patrick will explore a cheaper banking solution.
January 6th is the Stonefly Search. Children are welcome but each child must be accompanied by an adult.
The Samhain newsletter is done. The newsletter is undergoing an evolution and Gen hopes to get the style finalized soon. She will work with the Outreach Coordinator to get the newsletter distributed. It typically goes to Crazy Wisdom. Gen would like to get a list of every place the newsletter is distributed and publish the list in the newsletter. Gen would also like donations for the newsletter.
Kirn asked about whether or not she had been inducted. She was not contacted officially. She was not able to attend the Samhain Firewatch when the other officers were inducted. She'd like to contact parents of children who may be participating in the religious education program. She needs a listing of members with children. Patrick was not present for this request (he arrived later.) Don said that he would pass the request to Patrick. Kirn is not sure how much latitude she has. Children could design and perform their own rituals. The only guideline we have is that the program is intended to be more than babysitting. Rod got a copy of Triskele River's youth program guidelines. Having the Guilds do presentations for the children and schedule activities has been offered. Rob has the proposed by-laws change redefining the YAC responsibilities. Rob thanked Kirn for taking the job. Please send your thoughts, suggestions and comments about the youth program to Kirn.
The new meeting place and time are in the Calendar. In January we will start meeting on the second Saturday of the month. Hopefully the shift will allow more people to attend meetings. We will work around High Days as necessary.
Brooke gave a good presentation on I-Ching at the last meeting. It is as simple and as complex as you want it to be.
Maria is looking into a new book to use as a replacement for the current book or for continued education. This book discusses developing good life skills.
At the next meeting, the Seers will discuss and consolidate resource lists. They will also discuss conducting a High Day ritual
Rod gave a report on his trip to Triskele River. There were six students for Reki attunements. All the Triskele River High Days are weekend campouts. Each Guild does a presentation. Every two weeks, they have a rite and Guild meetings. Their Healers Guild has member medical history forms. They use incident reports to report accidents at rituals. They also have consent forms to accept treatment for the Healers Guild. They have a restocking form for their First Aid Kit. They have guidelines for children's behavior.
Rod posted to the list asking who would like CPR training. He needs ten students. There will be a $45 fee for CPR and First Aid training.
This month Guild members practiced Reiki.
New officers were elected. Rod is Guild Master. Don is Assistant Guild Master. Rob is Scribe.
Next month there will be a presentation on William Wallace and the following month one on Robert the Bruce. They were not too well prepared for the scheduled 'Show Us Your Blade' presentation. Rod spent time with the Triskele River's Warriors. At the end of January our Guild will participate in a joint survival get together.
Our Grove Champion is transferring to Triskele River. We had hoped the Grove Champion would take more of an active role in the Grove. We need to explore this more at a future meeting.
New officers were elected. Rod is Guild Master. Rob is Scribe.
There was a presentation on Divination and Magic at the last meeting. There will be a presentation on Rune Magic at the next meeting.
New officers were elected. Rod is Guild Master. Rob is Scribe.
The Guild visited Mananan's Shrine. It is past time for another cleanup at the Huron. Kirn would like to se activities posted far enough ahead of time for all Grove members to attend.
Producers did well at Samhain Harvest. Craft days are going well. They are working on decorations for the Producers altar. Gingerbread house decorating will be the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
Tabled until Outreach Coordinator could be present.
Tabled until Outreach Coordinator could be present.
We need to buy our own statues. Jan made a motion second by Maria to take money from the General Fund to buy statues. The motion passed unanimously. We should discuss what to purchase. Rob made a motion second by Don to hold a fund raiser to raise money to buy the statues with any deficit taken from the General Fund. The target is to have the new statues by Imbolc. Kirn made an addendum to the motion second by Patric to collect money at Yule and Imbolc and have the statues by Spring Equinox. Motion passed unanimously.
Gen made a motion to table this item until a representative of Willow Marsh could be present second by Kirn. Motion passed.
The first activity will be a Yule. There will not be a pre-ritual rehearsal. Kirn needs a list of parents of minor children. Everyone was reminded to please email ideas to Kirn. Gen offered to help with crafts.
The meeting adjourned at 8:56.
Respectfully submitted,
Jan
