What is the SLG Magicians' Guild?

The Shining Lakes Grove Magicians' Guild provides support and opportunity for education in magical research and practice. We are currently developing a system of magic based on our Grove's deities and cosmology, for Grove members to use in their personal practice.

Do you discuss stage magic?

No, our magic is "the art of causing changes in consciousness at will," as Dion Fortune put it. (I don't spell it with a "k" at the end because I've always thought that was silly. -Rob)

When and where do you meet?

We meet on Guild Day, which is held on the first Sunday of each month. Guild Day is held at Rodney Cox's house (263 Larkspur, Ann Arbor). Our Guild's meeting time is from 2 to 3 PM.

What do you do at the meetings?

We offer workshops on various forms of magical practice. Past workshops have included defining sacred space, elemental energy work, the Hermetic Laws, and sacred rivers and wells. We also give folks a chance to "talk shop" with others who are interested in magic.

How do I join?

Just fill out the application (you can find it on our Web page at http://www.msen.com/~robh/slg/magician.html or ask us for a copy) and present it at a Magicians' Guild meeting. The Guild members who are present will vote on whether to accept you. (Don't worry, we haven't turned anyone down yet!)

How much experience do I need to join?

None whatsoever. We want to provide inexperienced folks with the opportunity to learn. Of course, if you are experienced, that's great! Our only requirement is that you have to be a member of Shining Lakes Grove.

Do you have a course of study?

We do not currently have a study program for the local Magicians' Guild, though we have considered developing one in the future. For now, we recommend joining the ADF Magicians' Guild and enrolling in their Study Program.

Do I have to be in the ADF Study Program to join?

Nope. We encourage our local Guild members (and anyone who's interested) to join, but it's not a requirement.
