The Shining Lakes Grove Magicians' Guild has been established to further the goals and purposes of Shining Lakes Grove and Ár nDraíocht Féin.
The Shining Lakes Grove Magicians' Guild is committed to serving the SLG community in providing support and opportunity for education in magical research and practice.
Membership in the SLG Magicians' Guild shall be limited to members of Shining Lakes Grove, ADF. SLG Magicians are encouraged, but not required, to join the ADF Magicians' Guild. The candidate for membership must submit a membership application which is reviewed and voted upon by the Guild members at a regular meeting in which a quorum of fifty percent of the current active Guild members is present. A majority vote is required to pass an application for admission to the Guild. All applications are open to Guild members for inspection.
It is the intention of the SLG Magicians' Guild to affiliate with the ADF Magicians' Guild. Rank within the Guild shall be based upon achievement of circle levels within the Magicians' Track of the ADF Study Plan.
Maintaining active membership in the Magicians' Guild requires proof of continuing education in magical practice on an annual basis. As proof, all members shall be required to write at least one article per year, or do a workshop or presentation to the Guild that summarizes what they have learned. This article can reflect a class, lecture, literature, or personal experience. These articles will be available for inspection by Guild members.
For the purposes of this requirement, "once per year" refers to the twelve month period from Samhain to the next Samhain.
The badge of the SLG Magician shall be a spectralite bead to be worn on the SLG Grove necklace. The bead will be given to the Guild member after they have submitted their first article, or given their first presentation, as defined in Section IV above.
The Magicians' Guild Officers shall consist of the Guild Master and the Scribe. These offices are open to any SLG Magicians' Guild member. The Guild Master can appoint and remove a Treasurer for the Guild as s/he deems it necessary.
Duties of the Guild Master are to include:
The Guild Master serves a term of one year and may be re-elected an unlimited number of times.
Duties of the Scribe to include:
The Guild Scribe serves a term of one year and may be re-elected an unlimited number of times.
In case of a vacancy in the office of Guild Master, the Scribe will assume the duties of the Guild Master until an election can be held. In case of a vacancy in the position of Guild Scribe, an election will be held by written ballot at the next regular Guild meeting to fill the vacancy. Notice of this election will be given to all Guild members.
Officers are to be elected annually by written ballot. The candidate receiving the plurality of votes wins. In case of a tie, a coin flip will decide the winner. To be valid, a quorum of not less than fifty percent of the active membership must vote. An absentee vote may be submitted in writing to the Scribe (or for the Scribe election, to the Guild Master) in advance of the election meeting by regular mail or electronic mail. Inactive members may not vote in elections.
Membership must be notified in the SLG event calendar of the election not less than two weeks in advance.
Officers may be removed from office for gross dereliction of duties or for acting maliciously against the Guild, SLG, or the people they are serving as a Magician. After a reasonable attempt has been made to inform the officer of the charges, a vote shall be taken at the next regular meeting at which the stated quorum of fifty percent of the active Guild members is in attendance. The officer will be allowed the opportunity to address the Guild at this meeting.
A vote of 3/4 of the members present is necessary to remove the officer. The office shall be filled according to the above-described process.
Any officer removed from Guild office has the right to appeal to the Shining Lakes Grove Leadership Council.
The Magicians' Guild will meet at least once every third month to handle normal operations of the Guild and will include informational lectures given by the Guild members or invited guest lecturers. Additional meetings will be scheduled as necessary with due notification to members. A quorum of fifty percent of current active Guild members is required to conduct official business, but not to conduct lectures. All business meetings and lectures will be open to anyone interested in attending. The Guild may elect to hold a closed session after the meeting, for the purpose of performing magical work.
The Guild annual meeting will take place within two weeks of Samhain. At the annual meeting, officer candidates will be nominated and officers elected. New officers will take office upon election.
Guild members may be removed for those grounds outlined in the Shining Lakes Grove by-laws as well as deliberate falsification of application materials.
Members who act maliciously against the Guild, SLG, or people they are serving as a Magician shall lose their membership upon majority decision of the Guild members. Loss of SLG membership shall also result in loss of Guild membership.
After a reasonable attempt has been made to inform the member of the charges against him/her, a vote will be taken at the next Guild meeting at which the stated quorum is present. The member will be allowed the opportunity to address the Guild at this meeting. A 3/4 vote is required to expel a member.
Any member expelled by the Guild has the right to appeal to the Shining Lakes Grove Leadership Council.
There shall be two levels of membership status in the Guild: "active" and "inactive". All members begin their membership with "active" status. After missing three consecutive scheduled Guild meetings, their status changes to "inactive". Inactive members do not count toward quorum. An inactive member will have their status changed to "active" as soon as they have attended a Guild meeting.
To amend any part of these by-laws, a vote shall be taken at a regular Guild meeting at which the quorum as stated above is present. A majority vote of members present is required to pass the changes.
