Magicians' Guild Minutes - November 15th, 1998
Members in attendance: Howard Fleischer, Michelle Harper, Rob Henderson,
Rod Cox, Liz Benson
The meeting was opened at 2:10 PM.
Applications were first submitted by Rob, Rod, and Liz.
MOTION: To approve the applications submitted by Rob Henderson, Rodney
Cox, and Elizabeth Benson. (Rob, Rod) passed 3-0 (Yes, we had to vote
ourselves in, that's how the first approval works!)
After some discussion about what people were interested in doing within
the local Guild, Howard and Michelle also submitted applications.
MOTION: To approve the applications submitted by Howard Fleischer and
Michelle Harper. (Rob, Rod) passed 3-0
We then held our first election of Guild officers:
- Guild Master: Rob Henderson (approved 5-0) (ending a string of three
consecutive assistant roles within guilds)
- Guild Scribe: Liz Benson (approved 5-0)
As per the Leadership Council's request at the business meeting, we
discussed our role within the Grove community.
- We would like to develop a system of magic based on ancient
Indo-European practices. Rod provided us with a tentative list of books
and exercises for us to study IE practices. Howard suggested that we
should appoint a committee (no! not the C word!) to further develop our
local "study program".
- Rob recommended that Guild members provide mentoring services for
Grove members who are taking part in the ADF Dedicants' Program. This
would include discussing meditation techniques, journaling, creating an
altar, and so on. Howard expressed concern that the local Guild should
not get involved with a national ADF program, but Rob felt that this was
a valid need within our Grove's community which is not being addressed.
Liz expressed concern that this would be perceived as a counselling
role, and that if we do decide to do this, we should be clear about
exactly what "mentoring" entails.
- Rod would like to see Guild members doing magical workings for Grove
members. This got quite a discussion going, to put it mildly! In the
end, we agreed that it would be appropriate for us to help our fellow
Grove members to develop magical workings for themselves, but it would
be inappropriate for us to do the workings *for* them without their
direct involvement. We also discussed creating an ethics policy, similar
to that used by the local Seers' Guild.
We discussed upcoming topics for the monthly meetings:
- December: Creating Sacred Space Using Runes (Rod)
(Addendum: Michelle would like to give the January presentation,
covering the book "Positive Magic: Occult Self-help" by Marion
Weinstein. Thanks, Michelle!)
For future Guild meetings, we agreed to used a check-in
procedure/ritual to open and close each meeting, using candle magic.
The meeting was closed at 4 PM.
